FAQ

How can I see your entire selection of products?

Our main selection of handcrafted solid wood furniture is comprised of two collections from Mexico called Linea Miguel Garcia and Linea Elite.  The two collections consist of over 3,000 household furniture items that include furniture for the dining room, living room, bedroom, bathroom and home office.  The entire selection can be viewed in our in-house sketch catalogue although a portion of the catalogue has been posted on our website.

We have posted actual photographs of some of these items in order to give our customers a better idea of the beautiful finished product. Our customers might be able to find that particular piece in the store, or alternatively, it can be ordered at any time.

Our website does include the complete selection of products from three other key Casa Luna collections from Mexico.  You can view on line our complete Doors Catalogue, Copper Sinks Catalogue and Copper Furniture Catalogue.

Due to the unique nature of our business and products, we often display in our stores items that are from a collection of unique and one-of-a-kind finds.  We might for example import a selection of handcrafted items only once or twice from a particular Latin-American Country.  To date, we have imported products from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.  For this reason, many of our products can only be viewed in the store, as they are unique and may never be included in our website or in a catalogue.

Our beautiful accessories are forever changing.  We strive to find new handcrafted gems every time we travel.  None of our accessories can be found in a catalogue as we usually buy handcrafted products directly from the craftsmen and artisans.  What we have posted in the Accessories section of our website is simply examples of some of the items we may have at the moment or examples of items we’ve had in the past or might have again in the future.  When it comes to the accessories, it’s always a surprise!

How do I place an order?

If the item you are looking for is not currently in stock, you can place your order via email, telephone or in person.  A 50% deposit is required at the time of your order.  The balance is due only when your order has been received.  Although highly unlikely, should you not be 100% satisfied with your order, your deposit will be refunded to you immediately.

When placing an order, how long do I need to wait for delivery?

When placing an order, you can generally expect to wait anywhere from 12 to 20 weeks.  Yes, it does take quite a while, but great things happen to those who wait!

How can I pay for my purchases?

We accept Visa, MasterCard and personal cheques.  We also offer a financing plan through Visa Desjardins.  Our plan offers our customers 15 equal payments at 0% interest!  Casa Luna pays the interest for you.

Does Casa Luna customize products?

Yes we do.  We welcome custom orders, from individual items to large-scale commercial projects.  Our in-house team will work with you to create a quote for your approval.  Custom order requires a 50% deposit at the time of order.

Does Casa Luna charge for delivery?

Delivery is not included in the purchase price of our products.  Pick up or delivery is the customer’s responsibility although we will assist you in any way we can.

What are my shipping options?

You can arrange for the pick up of the items you have purchased or have them delivered to you by a professional moving company.  Casa Luna does not have a delivery department but will recommend a local delivery company to handle your transportation needs.

You may choose to contact the moving company directly or we can provide them with your contact information.  Once in contact with the moving company, they will provide you with a delivery quote.  If accepted, a delivery date and time that is convenient for you will be scheduled.  A delivery date is normally set anywhere from 2 to 5 days of the purchase date.

What kinds of guarantees do you offer?

Casa Luna is pleased to build quality furniture for you and guarantee its craftsmanship for a lifetime. We are proud of our work. If your piece ever needs our attention, we are here to take care of it.  We have been around since 1999 and will continue to be for many years to come.

Casa Luna furniture is crafted and finished by hand using only solid wood such as new and reclaimed pine.  Wood is a natural product and therefore every piece has it’s own unique grain and color variations. Due to these wood variations, finishes on individual pieces ordered at different times are not guaranteed to be perfect matches.  Imperfections such as small cracks, knots, surface markings and color variations are normal and therefore not considered craftsmanship errors.

How do I care for my wood furniture?

Wood is very sensitive to changes in relative humidity.  As the weather changes, solid wood furniture is constantly expanding and contracting.

Wood does best in moderate conditions of around 70°F to 72°F and relative humidity of about 50 to 55%.  The use of humidifiers in your home during the winter will help maintain the appropriate humidity level for your furniture as wood is most likely to crack when the climate in a home suddenly changes from hot and humid to cool and dry.

It’s always a good idea to place wood furniture away from radiators, heat runs or fireplaces. If you must place furniture near an air duct, the use of a shield or guard plate to direct the heat away is recommended.

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can also cause your wood furniture to dry out, crack or lighten in color and should be avoided.

Placing hot items directly on the surface of your wood furniture is not recommended as it can result in causing white rings or spots.  The use of coasters, runners, placemats, chargers and hot pads is always recommended.

Always use a protective pad when writing with a ballpoint pen on the furniture surface.

Felt will protect your tabletop from scratches when used on the bottom of lamps, vases and other accessories.  Always lift items from a tabletop.  Avoid sliding items across a table top as this can scratch the finish and in extreme cases, the wood surface below.

Cleaning your furniture should be done with a soft lint free cotton cloth dampened with water following the pattern of the grain. The cloth should not be so damp that it wets the wood.

For maintenance, any high quality furniture oil (without petroleum dryers or thinners) should be applied 1 to 4 times a year.  Regular oiling will deepen the finish while enhancing the natural beauty of the wood.  It will also restore the finish from superficial scratches.  Good quality oil products are widely available in specialty hardware stores.  Additional coats of oil can be applied as necessary and as per your own personal preference.

How do I care for my copper tub, copper sink or copper topped furniture?

Copper is surprisingly easy to maintain.   For basic cleaning, simply use a mild soap and warm water. Keep your copper product clean and dry by wiping it down after each use with a soft cloth. Harsh abrasives or copper cleaners should never be used on your copper products as they may affect the finish.

For extra protection, a clear paste Wax may be applied.  You can do this on a weekly or monthly basis as follows:

1 – Apply a thin coat of wax

2 – Let dry for ten minutes

3 – Buff with clean, dry cotton cloth

Copper is a living metal which means that your copper sink, tub or furniture will experience a very slow and gradual deepening in color over the years as the copper reacts to everyday use and the changing environmental conditions within your home.  You’ll be delightfully surprised as you experience copper’s “living finish” and see its gradual change in tone right before your eyes!  When left untreated, copper naturally deepens in color and tone over time.  It begins its journey with a pinkish, salmon-like hue and very gradually darkens in color as it passes through a progression of russet browns until it finally stabilizes to a deep, rich tone.

Unless you have purchased a copper sink with hand-painted details, our copper products are not lacquered or sealed.   This means that they will react to their environment as they develop character.  If acidic items such as lemons, ketchup, or red wine sit on these finishes for an extended period of time, the finish may be affected, but since copper is a living metal it will “heal” or re-patina itself over time, often in a matter of days.

Copper is subject to scratches and abrasions as are most natural materials.  Should you happen to scratch your copper piece and end up with a bright shiny streak, you won’t need to take any steps to “fix” it.  Once again, because of copper’s “living finish” properties, your copper sink, tub or piece of furniture will quite literally heal itself!  Simply go about your normal daily routine and within a short period of time you’ll notice the scratch begin to darken and slowly blend back in with the original patina.
